"The divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity." John Adams
"The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as His father, in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter." Thomas Jefferson in his Letter to John Adams, April 11, 1823
"During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity*; in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution." James Madison
* Laity - The body of religious worshipers, as distinguished from the clergy.
The reason for this bulletin is because I have noticed a rising trend of the US being referred to as a "Christian Nation". In no way is the Constitution related or affiliated with any religion as the writers of it have said. Need a more blatent example? In the Treaty of Tripoly, article 11 John Adams himself said, "The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."
This is the discrepancy with this particular argument the Christian Nation has waged. What they are saying is, all the founding fathers were Christian and this is a Christian nation. As you can see, the founding fathers were not even close to Christianity or any other religion along with almost all of the brightest and most revered people throughout history.
In short, this is not, nor has it ever been a Christian Nation by definition. Accept it.
